Shepherd family.
Family of Levi Shepherd (1743-1805) and Mary Pomeroy (1742-1824), of Northampton, Mass. Levi Shepherd owned a drugstore on Main Street and later was joined in the business by his sons Levi (1776-1820) and Thomas (1778-1846) at which time the business was expanded to include the manufacture of rope and duck cloth. The older Shepherd also was a director of a company which built locks and canals on the Connecticut River, invested in a turnpike built over the mountains westward, and was three times chosen as town selectman and state legislator. He was one of the wealthiest men in Northampton with an estate valued at $100,000 when he died in 1805.
