Stiles, Samuel, ca. 1737-1808.

The family of Samuel Stiles (ca. 1737-1808) moved to Georgia around 1758. During the American Revolution, the Stiles secured gun powder and ammunition from Bermuda for the colonists. Samuel Stiles' son, Joseph Stiles (1758-1838), had a son named Benjamin Edward Stiles (1794-1855). Hugh Greville Stiles (1887-1955) was the son of William Henry Stiles IV and a direct descendant of Samuel Stiles. During World War I, he was a Lieutenant with the 82nd Division out of Atlanta; in World War II, he was a Captain in the Transportation Corps. He and his wife, Elinor palmer Stiles, resided in Savannah, where he worked with the South States Phosphorus and Fertilizer company. He later became a shipping clerk at Smith and Kelly.
