Wakeman, Joel, 1809-1898
Joel Wakeman, minister, was born in Rhinebeck, New York and moved to Prattsburgh where he apprenticed to a wheelwright. In 1832, he converted to the Presbyterian church and entered the Franklin Academy where he became a strong temperance advocate and abolitionist. He was ordained in 1846 and preached in a number of churches in New York state.
