Wisconsin. Office of the Commissioner of Savings and Loan

Created in 1949, the Savings and Loan Department (WIHV85-A2110) was renamed the Office of the Commissioner of Savings and Loan in 1967. The Office continues as an independent regulatory agency. Under 1995 Wisconsin Act 27, the Office and its divisions were transferred to the newly created Dept. of Financial Institutions (WIHV96-A846), effective July 1, 1996. The above form of the name is used in Wisconsin State Archives' database entries for all appropriate records, dating 1967-present.

The Office of the Commissioner of Savings and Loan is responsible for the supervision of state-chartered savings and loan associations and the enforcement of Chapter 215, Wisconsin Statutes; the administrative rules pertaining to savings and loan associations; and other laws governing th e operation of savings and loan associations.
