Chase, Isaiah.
Joseph Holmes (1771-1863) was an active shipbuilder and shipowner for 62 years. Many of his ships were built in Kingston, Mass. He was engaged principally in trade with the West Indies, the trans-Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Cape Horn. Among his cargo was cotton produced in the South.
