Whelan, William, 1843-1908.
William Whelan, Sr. was a native of Ireland; he arrived in Arizona Territory to become wagon boss for Hooker and Hines Freighting Lines in 1869. He became foreman for the Sierra Bonita Ranch in 1872. He ran a stage station at Point of Mountain, Ariz., which was located east of Tucson on the road to Camp Bowie. William, Jr. was born in 1872; he spent most of his life working as a cowboy for the Hooker ranch spread. William, Jr. died in 1975 at the age of 103.
