Federation of American Scientists

The Federation of American Scientists, a federation of seven associations of scientists and engineers, was organized in 1946 for the purpose of promoting world peace, international control of atomic energy, and the proper use of science for general welfare. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., FAS sought to influence government policy and educate the public concerning the social implications of new knowledge in science.
