Heeley, Desmond
Desmond Heeley is a renowned set and costume designer. He began his career in 1948 as an apprentice at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. He has designed sets and costumes for plays, ballets, and operas in Europe, Australia, the United States and Canada. In 1968, he won two Tony Awards for his sets and costumes for the New York production of Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead. In 1994, he became the first person to receive the Theater Development Fund's Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award. He continues to design sets and costumes for theater, dance and opera productions.
