In 1981 the School of Industrial Management and Textile Sciences reorganized to form the College of Commerce and Industry. As part of its expanded mission, the Department of Marketing was created within the College the following year. In 1983 Marketing courses first appeared as separate course listings in University "Announcements, 1983-1984." Following final approval by the Commission on Higher Education in May 1986, the Department of Marketing initiated its bachelors' degree programs that August.
