Heckman, Aldred A.

Aldred Arthur Heckman (1905-1994) was a family service, public welfare, and foundation administrator. After brief employment at the Cleveland Associated Charities, he became executive director of the St. Paul United Charities (later to become Family Service of St. Paul) from 1931 until 1952. He then became executive director of the Hill Family Foundation, later known as the Northwest Area Foundation, and helped to establish the Jerome and Groot Foundations. Heckman also taught part time at the College of St. Catherine's, 1933-1946, was active in St. Paul community affairs, and served in positions with the American Association of Social Workers, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Family Service Association of America, for whom he directed numerous studies of family service agencies in cities across the nation.
