Shaffer, Joshua Monroe, 1830-1913.
Dr. Joshua M. Shaffer moved to Faifield in 1852. He was a founder and secretary of the Iowa State Agricultura Society, 1853-1874; secretary of the board for the first Iowa State Fair held in Fairfield in 1854; secretary and librarian for the Jefferson County Library; secretary of the Iowa Life Insurance Co., established in 1874 in Keokuk; an officer of the Unitarian Society in Keokuk; and a taxidermist with a large collection of stuffed animals.
