Dexter M. Ferry was born in Detroit, Nov. 23, 1872, son of Dexter Mason and Addle (Miller) Ferry; received an A.B. from Columbia University 1898, and an M.A. from the University of Michigan,1933; married Jeanette Hawkins, Oct. 1, 1907. Ferry was president of the Ferry-Morse Seed Company; chairman, Standard Accident Insurance Company; director, Michigan Fire & Marine Insurance Company; member, Michigan House of Representatives,1901-1904; president, State Board of Education,1908-1912; served in quartermaster's Department during World War I.
