Bentele, Max, 1909-

Born Jan. 15, 1909 in Jungingen, Germany, electrical and mechanical engineer who gained international recognition as an authority on automotive engine design and development. He patented 28 inventions and pioneered the development of the jet engine/gas turbine and the Wankel rotary engine. He was chief engineer for rotary combustion engines at Curtiss-Wright where he began its Wankel rotary engine program. He also served as consulting engineer to AVCO Lycoming and founded XAMAG, an engineering research, writing and consulting firm.
