Residents of Burlington County, New Jersey, and of Philadelphia, including Richard Smith (1699-1751), a merchant of Burlington and a member of the New Jersey assembly; his eldest son Samuel Smith (1720-1776), historian, New Jersey assembly member and state treasurer, also of Burlington; Richard's second son, John Smith (1722-1771), a merchant of Philadelphia and Burlington who married Hannah Logan (daughter of James Logan); Samuel Smith's eldest son Joseph Smith (b. 1742), New Jersey assembly member and state treasurer who lived at Burlington; the latter's son Samuel Joseph Smith (1771-1835), a poet and resident of Burlington; Samuel Smith's younger son Richard S. Smith (1752-1796), a farmer, merchant and New Jersey assembly member, of Moorestown; and the latter's son-in-law Richard Hill Morris of Philadelphia. All or most family members were Quakers.
