Philadelphia engineer and architect chosen to oversee the design and construction of the main exhibition building and Memorial Hall for the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia; president of the Franklin Institute from 1887 to 1893; native of Philadelphia, although Wilson's parents were natives of Charleston, S.C.
