Summers, John R., 1927-

John R. Summers was born in Irvine, Kentucky, and grew up in Louisville as a third-generation railroad employee. He began his railroad career with the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company in the Engineering Department and retired as engineer of public projects for CSX in Jacksonville, Florida. His fascination with railroads led him to compile this large collection, dating from 1862 to 1994, which includes his memoirs and some family history. His grandfather, John Price Hundley, was a section foreman, fireman, and locomotive engineer for the Richmond, Nicholasville, Irvine, and Beattyville Railroad (also known as the Rhiney B), the Louisville and Atlantic Railroad, and the L & N. His father, Richard George Summers, was a clerk, traveling accountant, and traveling auditor for the L & N.

From the description of Hundley-Summers railroad collection, 1862-1994. (Kentucky Historical Society). WorldCat record id: 49390437
