Morrey, Charles Bradfield, 1907-1984
Charles Bradfield Morrey, Jr. (1907-1984) was born in Columbus, Ohio and educated at Ohio State University and Harvard University (Ph. D., 1931). After National Research Council fellowships at Princeton University and Rice University, he joined the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley in 1933, retiring in 1977. His research included work in area of surfaces, calculus of variations, and elliptic partial differential equations. His work led to the solutions of the 19th and 20th problems of Hilbert.
