Dumbarton United Methodist Church (Washington, D.C.)

Dumbarton United Methodist Church of Georgetown is one of the oldest Methodist societies in America; first Methodist society established in the District of Columbia and has met continuously since 1772; first meetings were held in a cooper shop near 31st and N streets before moving to Montgomery (28th) Street and Bridge (M) Street; in 1849 the church moved to its present location at 3133 Dumbarton Avenue; 1795-1850 known as Montgomery Street Methodist (or Methodist Episcopal) Church; 1850-1968 known as Dumbarton Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church; present name adopted in 1968.
