The vessel "Canada" was built by Brown & Bell, New York shipbuilders, in 1823, for Black Ball Lines as a packet from New York to England. In 1833, she became part of the Red Swallowtail Lines, New York to London. In 1835, "Connecticut parties" purchases her. From 1839 to 1842, she in engaged in the "transient trades" to various ports. New Bedford bought her for whaling service in 1842. She made her last voyage in 1856 captained by Barton Ricketson. Unfortunately, port officials in Brazil ran her aground due to negligence.
