Sackett, Hermon
There are two spellings of Sackett's first name, Herman and Hermon. The Vance book vacillates between the two. The school catalogs list Hermon, but usually just H. Sackett. His own writings are usually H. Sackett. His own botany book contains both spellings. The weight of evidence favors Hermon over Herman and thus he is referred to here as Hermon. Hermon Sackett was a 1902 graduate of Edinboro and went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts from Washington and Jefferson. He was hired by Principal Frank E. Baker. Sackett served as the Preceptor for Reeder Hall (then a male dormatory). This was a time when faculty at Edinboro typically held responsibilities other than teaching. His first teaching assignments were Latin, French and Mathematics. This changed in 1911 to History and Mathematics which he taught until his retirement. By 1927 he is listed as the Head of the Social Studies Department. Sackett was also an instumental leader of the alumni association.
