Texas Educational Media Program

An initiative of the University of Texas Departments of History and of Radio/Television (of which KLRU was part), the Texas Educational Media Program initiative brought to Austin forty-one of the foremost American historians and taped them in two or three 30-minute lectures. Part of a course entitled “The History of American Civilization - By Its Interpreters,” the lectures were intended to be a component upper undergraduate courses that “should be the liveliest, most-talked-about in a department’s offerings.” Originally headed by Walter Prescott Webb, Joe Frantz took over after Webb’s unexpected death and completed the project in 1963.
