General Convention of the New Jerusalem in the United States of America
Christian church based on the theological works of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772); formally organized in England in 1787; Swedenborg's works introduced in the U.S., in 1784 and by early 1800s first church built; in 1890 group split into two, existing today as General Convention of the New Jerusalem in the United States of America and the General Church of the New Jerusalem; also known as General Convention of Swedenborgian Churches, the New Church, the Swedenborgian Church, General Convention, or the Church of the New Jerusalem.
