Reeder, Carolyn

Born in the District of Columbia one November 16, 1937, Carolyn Owens Reeder, a now highly celebrated writer, never expected to find herself with a repertoire of over ten published pieces of literature. Teacher by trade and passion, Reeder attended American University and began teaching fourth, fifth and sixth grade. Years would pass before she would try her hand at fictional writing. Reeder and her husband, Jack, employed their love for hiking and camping in writing three nonfiction titles about the Shenandoah National Park. This activated further pursuit for Reeder in writing, only this time with young reader fiction. Her first historical children's novel was published in 1989 entitled Shades of Gray, followed by four more in the next nine years. Reeder has since ceased teaching to devote full time to writing. She says, "It's wonderful to have all the time I need to research and write my historical novels and still have time to do the other things I enjoy."Biographical source: Something About the Author.
