League of American Wheelmen
The League of American Wheelmen first began in New Port, R.I. in 1880 and was the governing body for bicycle racing at that time. The organization continues to survive as the League of American Bicyclists providing cycling education for adults and children. It also sponsors the biennial "Bicycle Educators Leaders Conference" and the "Safe Routes to School" program.
