Botanical Expedition to British Guiana (1919-1920)

The Botanical Expedition to British Guiana was part of a series of expeditions in cooperation with the United States National Museum (USNM), the New York Botanical Garden, and the Gray Herbarium of Harvard University. The United States Department of Agriculture was also a sponsor. The purpose of these expeditions was to increase the amount of botanical collections from South America. While in British Guiana, J. B. Harrison who was in charge of scientific activities of the colony assisted Albert Spear Hitchcock, USNM, custodian of the Section of Grasses. The expeditions went to British Guiana, St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Kitts, Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad, and Grenada.
