University of Utah. Secretary and Controller's Office

Prior to 1960, the Secretary to the Board of Regents was also the accountant and general business and purchasing agent of the University. In the late 1930s, the Secretary was also made "Comptroller." the title Secretary and Controller began to be used in 1952. The offices were split in 1960 when the new Controller's Office was established in the office of Business Vice President.

Leon D. Garrett was Secretary and Controller from 1935 to 1960 and remained as Secretary until 1969. Gordon J. Miller served as Controller from 1961 to 1967. In 1968 the title of Controller was abolished and the functions of the office were transferred to the new office of the Financial Vice President.
