The Jewish Theological Seminary of America, located in New York, was founded in 1886 and reorganized in 1902. The Seminary, considered the fountainhead of the Conservative Movement in Judaism, consists of a rabbinical school and graduate and undergraduate programs in Jewish Studies. During the early decades of the century it also included a teacher training institute. The Seminary's heads have been Solomon Schechter (1902-1915), Cyrus Adler (1915-1940), Louis Finkelstein (1940-1972), Gerson Cohen (1972-1986), and Ismar Schorsch (1986-present).
