Biography

Ernest Hemingway ranks among the most famous of twentieth-century American writers. His writing career was varied and celebrated. He was a journalist and war correspondent and published dozens of short stories and ten novels, among which are counted some of the most important American novels ever written. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for The Old Man and the Sea; the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954; and the Award of Merit from American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1954. Hemingway was born July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, IL; he committed suicide, July 2, 1961, in Ketchum, ID. He married four times and had three children.
