Allen, William W., 1829-1866.
William W. Allen was born in 1829, and raised in Rensselaerville, New York. He graduated from Williams College in 1849, and in 1850 was a teacher in New Lebanon. In 1853 he was licensed to preach in the Baptist Church in Canaan, New York. Allen married Cornelia Niles of Rensselaervelle in 1855, and the same year became minister of churches at Sand Lake and Schodack. In 1858 he moved to Iowa, where he served as pastor at a number of churches across the state until 1865. During his time in Iowa he left the Baptist Church He returned to New York in 1866 to take charge of the Presbyterian Church in Rensselaerville. He was committed to the State Lunatic Asylum in Utica, and died there before November 27, 1866.
