Montfort, Theodorick Wingfield, 1823-1862

Theodorick Wingfield Montfort (1823-1862), the son of Theodorick and Elizabeth Terrell Montfort, was a farmer and lawyer in Oglethorpe and Macon County, Georgia. As a 1st Lieutenant in Company B of the 22nd Georgia Battalion, Heavy Artillery, the Macon County Wise Guards he left with the company to serve the Confederacy in September, 1861. They arrived first in Virginia, then the Georgia coast. He was at Fort Pulaski during the Federal attack and the surrender of the fort in April of 1862. He was taken as a prisoner first to Governor's Island, New York, then to other prisons. He was paroled at Vicksburg, Mississippi and returned to Butler, Georgia where his family lived. He died there on September 27, 1862.
