American Technion Society, Boston Chapter, Women’s Division
The American Technion Society is an organization that was founded in 1940 with the purpose of aiding the technological advancement of Israel. It achieved this by helping the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, and ensuring its ability to be at the forefront of research and teaching of science and technology. The Technion itself was founded in 1912 and held its first classes in 1924, offering degrees in engineering and the sciences. 2
The Women’s Division of the American Technion Society was subsequently founded in 1956 to help support the work and development of Technion-Israel Institute of Technology by focusing on three main national programs: faculty recruitment, medical engineering, and student aid. In the 1970s, the group took a special interest in supporting the Medical Engineering Project in the Medical School, raising funds for its Biomedical Engineering Program, a field which had quickly grown since 1968. 3 The Boston Chapter of the Women’s Division was founded in 1961.
