Knox, James Lloyd, 1929-
James Lloyd Knox, retired bishop of the United Methodist Church, was born in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from Florida Southern College in 1951 and went on to earn a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology. He and his wife, Edith, served as missionaries to Cuba and Argentina from 1958-1964. Later, Knox served the Florida Conference as coordinator of the Florida Spanish Ministry and superintendent of the DeLand and Miami Districts.
Knox was elected to the position of bishop in 1984. He served in the Birmingham Episcopal area until 1992, when he was appointed to the North Georgia Conference. Although Knox retired in 1996, he served as bishop of the Florida Conference in 1999 and in 2000-2001 following the illness and death of Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson.
