Oregon. State Historic Preservation Office
The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) commenced in 1933 as a federal jobs program to document old buildings. It became a permanent program in 1934, administered by the National Parks Service. A parallel program, the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), came into being in 1969, to document engineering and industrial sites. The HABS and HAER reports in this collection were gathered by the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office, and deposited at the Oregon Historical Society, the University of Oregon, and the Library of Congress, beginning prior to 1990. Related reports, including mitigation reports prior to demolition or replacement of structures, are also filed with this collection.
