American sociological association

The American Sociological Society organized in 1905, incorporated in 1943, established a central office in 1949, and changed its name to the American Sociological Association in the next decade. With increased membership in the 1950s and 1960s, it published several journals, created sections and committees to carry out its mission, and took a stance on politics of the day. In the following decades, it expanded its initiatives in teaching and community service.
