Smyth, Robert, 1814-1893.
Smyth was one of the pioneers of Linn County, Iowa, settling there in 1840. He was a successful real estate dealer and banker. He served in the 6th Territorial Legislature (1843-4) and the State Legislature (1846-48, 1868-72 and 1884-86). From 1861 to 1866 he served as paymaster in the United States Army, disbursing more than ten million dollars during his term.
