Vanhoff and Lewis. (Springfield, Ill.)
Henry Vanhoff and Obediah Lewis bought the carriage and wagon business from their employer, Mr. Henkle in 1836. In 1854 Henry Vanhoff died and Lewis continued to run the business alone until 1869 when he retired. Always involved in city affairs, he was elected Mayor in 1874, and served only one year. Abraham Lincoln was a customer of the business.
