One year after its founding in 1968, Florida Technological University was approved by the Florida State Board of Regents to have its first sports team - basketball. Since then sports at FTU (and under its subsequent name University of Central Florida) have grown enormously, currently operating 16 intercollegiate teams as well as 30 university sports clubs.
