Gray, Christopher L.

Biographical Note: Christopher Gray was a professor of art, The Johns Hopkins University, and a writer on art subjects.

He was born in Milton, Mass. in 1915. He received a B.S. degree in Physics from Harvard in 1937 and was associated with the Radio Research Laboratory at Harvard during the second World War. Gray did graduate work in the history of art at University of California, Berkeley and received his Ph. D. from the Department of Fine Arts, Harvard University in 1951. Gray came to The Johns Hopkins University in 1947 when a Dept. of Fine Arts was created and remained until his retirement in 1969. In 1963, he published "Sculpture and Ceramics of Paul Gauguin." A second major work, "Armand Guillaumin," was published posthumously in 1972. Christopher Gray died in 1970.
