Chinese inspectors of the U.S. Immigration Service were charged with identifying and apprehending illegal Chinese immigrants in violation of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The cases were tried before the Commissioner of the U.S. District Court, R.D. George. If found guilty, the U.S. Marshal Ben F. Daniels was responsible for their deportation.
