Talbot Mills.

In 1839 Charles P. Talbot and his brother Thomas formed C.P. Talbot & Co., a dyewood factory in North Billerica, Mass. In 1844 they expanded their business at a nearby site to include chemical manufacturing. This mill burned in 1853. In 1851 the Talbots had purchased another site upon which they built a woolen mill which produced flannels. C.P. Talbot ran the dye and chemical business and Thomas directed the woolen mill. Thomas was elected Lieutenant Governor of Mass. in 1872 and Governor in 1878 while remaining active in the management of the woolen mill. C.P. Talbot died in 1884 and Thomas in 1886. The company incorporated in 1884 and Frederick Clark became treasurer and general manager. Ladies' and men's plain and fancy wear was added to the product line. In 1957 the company became a division of Massachusetts Mohair Plush Co.
