Lake County Historical Society (Lake County, Ohio)

The Lake County Historical Society was established in Lake County, Ohio, in 1936, as the Lake County chapter of the Western Reserve Historical Society. It opened the home of President James A. Garfield, named Lawnfield, in Mentor, Ohio, to the public. In 1954, the Lake County Historical Society became independent of the Western Reserve Historical Society, and in 1984, relocated from Lawnfield to the Lake County History Center at Shadybrook in Kirtland Hills. The society maintains a museum and a research library. It also has sponsored exhibits, educational programs, and special events.
