Currin, Beverly Madison

Dr. B. Madison Currin, Rector Emeritus - The Reverend Beverly Madison Currin was born in Burlington,NC, in 1931. He is a graduate of Elon College (A.B., 1953), the Duke University Divinity School (M.Div., 1956); and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia (Th.M. and Ph.D., 1957 and 1958). He was ordained to the priesthood by the Bishop of Virginia in 1959. He served as assistant Rector of Grace and Holy Trinity Church in Richmond, 1958-1961; and as Rector and Dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul in Charleston, SC, 1961-1966. He became the Fifteenth Rector of Christ Church on February 1, 1966, retiring on November 1, 2002 to become rector emeritus. In early 2003 he was appointed honororary canon of the Cathedral Church of St Luke and St Paul in Charleston, becoming the Reverend Canon Doctor!

Dr. Currin has served on the Standing Committee of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast (of which he was one of the founding fathers) for three three-year terms, and as president twice. He has served on most diocesan committees and commissions over the years. A well-published author, he has written Decision in Crisis, If Man is to Live, and The Hope that Never Disappoints. His two-volume history of Christ Church, From One Generation to Another and The Vision Glorious, is on sale in the parish office. The Search for the Lost Rectors has also been published, and Dr. Currin is working on a new book entitled Does God still Speak to Us?
