Baker, Annie Laurie, 1905-
Annie Laurie Baker came to the University of Minnesota Hospitals in 1931 as a medical social worker. In 1935, she went to the State Board of Control (now the State Dept. of Public Welfare), to serve as a district representative in northwest Minnesota until 1942. She also worked as director of the Division of Blind form 1938-1942. During WWII, She joined the American Red Cross and worked in both domestic service and foreign service in England, France and Japan. Miss Baker returned to the University Hospitals in 1948 as director of the Social Service Dept. and professor of social work. She remained at the University until her retirement in 1972.
