Robert Dechert, lawyer, educator, civic leader, and Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania. Dechert received his A.B., 1916; LL. B., 1921; and LL. D., 1958 from the University of Pennsylvania; taught part-time for the University of Pennsylvania Law School, 1923-1942; founded the law firms of Hepburn, Dechert, and Norris, 1921-1927 and Dechert, Price, and Rhoads, 1930-1956; acted as legal counsel for the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, 1927-1956 and for the United States Department of Defense, 1957-1959; was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for action at Le Chermel, France during World War I; and served as a Trustee for the University of Pennsylvania, the Lawrenceville School, the Philadelphia Y.M.C.A., and the Free Library of Philadelphia.
Henry Taylor Dechert, lawyer, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, A.B., 1879; A.M., 1882; and LL. B., 1881. Henry Taylor Dechert founded the law firm Potter, Dechert, and Norris. He was a Colonel in the Pennsylvania National Guard, 1898-1904. He was the father of Robert Dechert.
