Wyndham, Lee

Lee Wyndham (1912-1978) was the pseudonym for Jane Andrews Lee Hyndman, an editor and author of books for juveniles. Born in the Ukraine, her family escaped from the Bolsheviks in 1919, leaving Russia for Istanbul. She came to the U.S. in 1923, and married Robert Hyndman (1906-1973), who wrote under the name Robert Wyndham, in 1933. Lee did not start writing professionally until 1947, but went on to have a prolific career. One of her best-known titles may be Candy stripers. Robert Wyndham, a writer and editor, also sang professionally and worked as a chief recording engineer for Wurlitzer Music Corporation and for G. Schirmer.
