Cook, Georgiana Hemingway, b. 1842

Georgiana Hemingway was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in March 1842, the daughter of Willis Hemingway, a dry goods merchant, and his wife Theresa. Georgiana had three younger brothers: Willis, Charles, and Frederick. During the Civil War, Hemingway lived in Fair Haven, Connecticut (now part of New Haven), and Suffield, Connecticut, though she occasionally traveled to Philadelphia and New York City. On June 30, 1877, she married Joseph Cook (1838-1901), an author and lecturer. They lived in Boston and in Ticonderoga, New York. Georgiana Hemingway Cook later became active in the temperance movement and other social causes.
