Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station

The Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station began in 1901 under the direction of the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States.

Funds from Congress resulted in the appropriation of land in Kewalo-uku in Makiki Valley. In 1929 the Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station became affiliated with the University of Hawaii while maintaining ties to the United States Department of Agriculture. In 1979, the Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station and the Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service merged to form the Hawaii Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
