Martín Sansaricq, Eduardo, 1875-1959.

Martín Sansaricq was involved in the Cuban Independence War since its beginnings. He joined the "Mambi" army in 1895 and was wounded and imprisoned by the guerrilla of Yaguajay. Later, he escaped and rejoined the Ejército Libertador in the Brigada de Remedios. Martín Sansaricq had an active role in the seizure of the heliograph of Arroyo Blanco, the last combat of importance of the Cuban armed forces. He served under de command of Máximo Gómez who promoted him to commander in chief of Yaguajay with the responsibility of forming a police force to maintain order in the region. After the war he enlisted in the Guardia Rural in the towns of Trinidad, Cruces and Yaguajay. In 1931 Martín Sansaricq was appointed captain of the Leoncio Vidal Regiment in Santa Clara, Las Villas, and later in Yaguajay. He retired from the army in 1934 but continued active in the Asociación de Veteranos de la Independencia.
