Brandt, Isaac, 1827-1909.
Isaac Brandt was born in Ohio and moved to Des Moines, Iowa with his family in 1858 where he worked in the mercantile business. In 1867 Brandt was appointed deputy state treasurer. In 1873 he was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives. He also served as an inspector for the Northern Pacific Railroad; the postmaster of Des Moines; secretary of the Pioneer Lawmakers' Association of Iowa; treasurer of the Black Diamond Company (a Des Moines coal mining company); Des Moines School Board member; and agent and conductor on the Underground Railroad.
