Program established in 1941 to coordinate volunteer activities and services in the University of Michigan hospitals and health system. Initial activities were all based in the hospital assisting patients, helping staff, and serving as guides. Eventually activities expanded into community service and Meals on Wheels programs for home-bound cases.
